Barwell moved into second place on Saturday after an excellent bowling display gave them victory against league leaders Enderby.
Barwell batted first and the opening pair of Trent Rollins and Adam Stapleford-Jones got the hosts off to a positive start. Rollins made his way past 600 runs for the season before departing cheaply for 21; Stapleford-Jones followed shortly after for the same score and Barwell’s middle order was exposed. Jack Smith played aggressively and top scored for Barwell with 27 and was the shining light in a middle order that again failed to perform. Dec Allen scored a valuable 14 not out towards the end as Barwell finished on 155-9.
Despite the league leaders having a modest total to chase, they never looked comfortable and Barwell took wickets at regular intervals to ensure the visitors never got going. Opening bowler Lee Skene was the pick of the Barwell attack with 4-38 from ten overs, and there were two wickets each for Chris Moore, Kyle Newall and Neil Cowdrey.
Captain Trent Rollins was pleased with his side’s performance, he said: “It was a great win for us against top of the league. We were disappointing with the bat so it was great to see us come out like that with the ball and dominate the game.”
Promotion is now in Barwell’s own hands and they are 12 points ahead of third place with just three games to play in division two.
