Kegworth Town 2 v Barwell Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 19 May 2012 at 13.30
Barwell Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets 23 points

Match report Barwell 1st XI travel to Kegworth and bag another win!

After a brief and untidy fielding practice Geoff Hines won the toss and elected to field first, making that 2 tosses out of 2 – turns out he really is a good tosser.

Kev Hines began rustily on his first appearance this season, narrowly avoiding his own toes as he bowled too short in his first over. However from the poor start Barwell fielded well and stopped the run rate, even with some fielders (particularly SJ) resembling one half of Torville and Dean.

The first bit of drama of the day came as the Kegworth opener Hodge failed to recognise the ‘ECB Spirit Of Cricket’ and remained in his crease after middling it to the keeper. Evidently Skeney hadn’t waited for the planes to pass overhead and this meant the umpire couldn’t hear the nick, which along with the fact he couldn’t see didn’t help matters.

As Kegworth reached 100-2 changes we’re made in the attack and Nick Hines and Neil Cowdrey picked up wickets and bowled at great economy rates. Particularly notable was Nicks slower-than-slow ball that keeps picking up wickets. This lead to Barwell being set a total of 173 from their 45 overs.

After tea, Moran and SJ started positively and put on was their first 50+ partnership in a long time, eventually being broken when Moran planted his foot on middle and put his bat nowhere near it – LBW hitting all three. Cowdrey then entered the frame and was quicker than last week getting off the mark within 5 overs and taking the scored past 90 with SJ. This stand was broken with an astonishing caught and bowled, with SJ departing on 46 agonisingly short of a 50, and leading to a fine for jug avoidance.

Fisher, Cowdrey, Hines and Norris then all contributed, and somewhat feasted on the lesser bowlers finishing the game with time to spare and giving Barwell good time for a tour back, taking in the Cap & Stocking in Kegworth and the Three Tons in Barlestone.

All in all great preparation for next weekend, facing the apparently strong Enderby on the Saturday and Quorn 2nds on the Sunday.
