Match report Barwell Cricket Club's push for promotion took a dent last weekend following a 2 wicket defeat away to Melton Mowbray CC.

Batting first, Barwell sent the father and son pairing of Ady & George Baker to open the innings. The pair had put on 36 when George was unlucky to be given out LBW and Ady fell shortly after when he was bowled for 20.

Dec Allen joined Clint Baker with the score on 53 for 3 and they put on 40 for the fourth wicket before Allen was bowled for 22.

Darren Roach came in next and also scored 22, taking the score to 139 for 5 when he was given out LBW in the 39th over.

Nick Hines was then promoted up the innings to push the innings on over the closing overs. With some lusty blows Hines scored a quick 26 and with Clint Baker, who passed 700 runs for the season during his 55 not out, Barwell's total was taken to 186 for 7 off their 45 overs.

Melton's successful run chase was built around their opener, Steve Claricote, who scored a measured 102 not out.

Barwell had early success as Liam O'Rourke trapped Humphreys LBW for 5. However, they had to wait until after the drinks break before Ady Baker had Fourie caught for 37.

With Lee Skene, Ady Baker and Liam O'Rourke bowling well wickets began to fall at regular intervals and Barwell thought a win was within sight.

Unfortunately Barwell could not claim the last two wickets as Melton reached their winning score of 190 for 8 in the 39th over.

The wickets were shared between Liam O'Rourke (3 for 46), Ady Baker (2 for 44), Lee Skene (2 for 53) and Clint Baker (1 for 17).
