Match report Barwell 2nds secured their third win in a row with an excellent team performance away to Grace Dieu Park 2nds.

On winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Barwell’s opening bowlers of Ben Betteridge and Dec Allen were soon in the wickets. Backed up by some good catching Dec Allen claimed 3 for 32 off his 8 overs.

George Rolfe (2 for 19) and George Rowley (1 for 11) were then introduced into the attack, bowling well to exert pressure on the opposition batsmen with wickets continuing to fall at regular intervals.

Ben Betteridge was brought back on and ended with excellent figures of 3 for 26 off his 10 overs. It was left to Elliot Moule to claim the final wicket as Grace Dieu were bowled out for 90 in the 32nd over.

Barwell’s run chase got off to a disastrous start as they were reduced to 6 for 2 after just 3 overs. It was left to George Baker and skipper James Dillon to re-build the innings as the pair put on 40 for the third wicket before Dillon was caught behind for 16.

Two further quick wickets brought the experienced Ben Betteridge to the wicket. He, together with the determined George Baker (28 not out), were able to put on 42 for the sixth wicket and Betteridge (26 not out) hit the winning runs as Barwell reached their winning total of 92 for 5.

Barwell 2nds will hope to continue this run of good form as the welcome Ashby Hastings 2nds to their Kirkby Road home next Saturday.
