Match report Barwell 1st's season got off to the best possible start with a 4 wicket win against Melton Mowbray.

Under the new captaincy of Richard Page and with a couple of new faces in the team Barwell lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. On a good batting wicket the Melton batsmen put a series of mini partnerships together in their total of 227 for 6. This could have been more had it not been for the experience of Nick Hines (4 for 42) and Ady Baker (1 for 39). The other wicket taker was Ben Betteridge who took 1 for 60 off his 11 overs.

Barwell's run chase got off to a good start as Tommy Wright and George Baker put on 55 for the 1st wicket. George was the first to fall when he was bowled for 12 and Clint Baker went in similar fashion when he was bowled for 18 with the scores on 98.

Tommy went on make an excellent 74 in an innings which included 1 six and 9 fours. Jack Smith and debutant Irfan Khan took up the run chase and the pair had put on 68 when Irfan was eventually bowled for 31. Jack was then joined by Liam O'Rourke and the pair took the side to the brink of victory before Jack was bowled for 54 with the scores level. It was left to Liam (17 not out) to score the winning runs with 3 balls left.

This was a great start for skipper Richard Page and bodes well for the rest of the season.
