Match report Barwell secured promotion to division 2 in one of the most remarkable wins in their history.

Needing a win at already promoted Melton, Barwell were initially up against it as Melton's opening batsmen got them off to a flying start. However, the experience of Nick Hines and Ady Baker managed to slow the run rate down and Melton were restricted to 228 for 7 off their 45 overs.

Ady managed to pick up 3 for 44 and Nick 2 for 51 with support from Ben Betteridge (1 for 21) and Liam O'Rourke (1 for 61).

Barwell got off to their usual steady start before losing Tommy Wright for 7 with the score on 21. Danny Moran came in at number three and had managed 19 before he was caught with the score on 47 in the 15th over. With the score on 66 for 3 in the 20th over it required a captain's innings to bring Barwell back into the game and as if on cue up stepped Jack Smith. Supporting George Baker , who was accumulating runs at one end, Jack put on 85 for the 4th wicket before being caught for 50.

Brad Harvey came in at number 6 to give George valuable support before he was bowled for 24 after a partnership of 60. With the run rate edging up to nearly 10 an over George continued to play with great maturity as he started to go up through the gears with excellent running between the wickets and the occasional boundary.

It all came down to the last over with Barwell requiring 15 off the last over with George and Josh Moore at the wicket. Five wides and a 4 from George brought it down to 3 required from the last 2 balls. George then took this opportunity to hit his 2nd 6 of his innings to secure an amazing victory, take him to his maiden century and trigger wild celebrations.

The celebrating continued long into the night as George was elevated, quite literally at times, to hero status as the club helped him celebrate his 102 not out and the team's promotion.

Huge praise must also go to skipper Jack Smith, who has lead his team with great maturity, creating an excellent team spirit where everyone has pulled together and made valuable contributions through the season.
