Match report Barwell 2nds lost their top of the table clash with Anstey & Glenfields 2nds, but can hold their heads high after another thrilling game at Kirkby Road.

After losing nearly a whole bowling attack to the first team, Barwell did well to restrict Anstey to 201 for 8 off their 40 overs. The wickets were shared between Matt Welsh (2 for 30), Ash Washington (1 for 31), Andy Clarke (1 for 39) and Aiden Page (1 for 50).

Barwell's run chase got off to a disastrous start as they were soon reduced to 9 for 3 in the 5th over. James Dillon and Garry Roach then set about rebuilding the innings and the pair had put on 68 before Garry was caught for 38. Skipper James Dillon fell soon after, being bowled for a typically gritty 18.

After losing 3 quick wickets, Barwell were reduced to 129 for 8 and looking like they would be on the end of a heavy defeat. However, Sam Taylor and Matt Welsh put on 40 for the 9th wicket and gave Barwell an outside chance of victory. Sam was eventually caught for a well made 51 and the innings soon closed as they were bowled out for 177.

It was to Barwell's credit that they fought to the end and the 11 losing points may prove invaluable at the end of the season as the title race appears it will go down to the wire.
