Match report Barwell 2nd's push for promotion continued with a great team performance away at Maher 2nds.

On losing the toss Barwell were asked to bat first and made a steady if unspectacular start against Mahers' opening bowlers. In the end openers Josh Moore and Peter Tillin fell to consecutive balls in the 9th over to leave Barwell 28 for 2. The third wicket stand of 50 between Paul Pierce and Jon Fitt was finally broken when Paul was bowled for 13.

Fitty then had the joy of batting with Sam Taylor and the pair put on a further 40 before Rusty was caught for 16.

Fitty was beginning to enjoy his spell in the middle and went to his 50 with a well struck 4. The 5th wicket partnership between Fitty and Andy Clarke saw them put on a further 50 runs before Fitty was run out by a direct hit with his score on 80.

Andy hit some typically massive 6s in his 35 before skying one and being caught at square leg by the wicket keeper. Skipper for the day, Darren Roach, did well to manage the lower order as Barwell closed their innings on 209 for 9.

The Mahers' reply never really got going as Liam Castle produced career best figures of 6 for 16 off his 10 overs. He managed to get some great away swing and pulled off one spectacular caught and bowled.

Cas received good support from George Rolfe (2 for 20) before Daz Roach (0 for 1) and Nathan Clarke (1 for 7) mopped up the tail.

The win keeps Barwell in the top 2 with only 6 matches to go.
