Match report Barwell's promotion push took a step closer this weekend with a convincing 8 wicket win over Long Whatton.

Whatton chose to bat first and were soon in trouble as Aiden Page took the first two wickets in his opening spell of 2 for 15 off his 5 overs and then went on to run out their other opening bat.

Liam Tillin claimed a wicket in his second over as some inspired bowling changes then saw Sam Taylor claim 2 wickets in his opening spell, before being replaced by Andy Clarke who took a wicket in his first over. Rusty then came on to claim a further wicket in his second spell before Matt Welsh claimed the last wicket of the innings.

Rusty was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 3 for 11 off his 2 overs and was well supported by Aiden Page (2 for 15), Liam Castle (1 for 9), Liam Tillin (1 for 25), Andy Clarke (1 for 4 ) and Matt Welsh (1 for 5).

Chasing 80 to win the Barwell openers made a good start before both fell with the score on 26. However, Barwell don't panic this season in these situations and an unbroken third wicket partnership of 54 between Paul Pierce and James Dillon took Barwell to victory with 24 overs to spare. Paul hit some typically fluent drives in his 30 not out and skipper James Dillon supported him well with 19 not out.

Barwell's promotion push will continue next week as they travel away to Bardon Hill 2nds.
