Match report Barwell secured an excellent 45 run victory over local rivals, Newbold Verdon, to keep their promotion push on target.

Barwell batted first and Tommy Wright got Barwell to a good start with his customary 25. Three quick wickets then left Barwell struggling on 55 for 4 after 16 overs. However, a seventh wicket partnership of 121 between Clint Baker and Brad Harvey pushed Barwell to a competitive total. Brad was the first to depart when he was run out for 53 and was followed soon after by Clint who was bowled for 62.

Quick double figure scores from Josh Moore (12 not out) and Ben Betteridge (10) in the closing overs took Barwell to 199 for 7 off their 41 overs.

Newbold's reply never really got going against opening bowlers Liam O'Rourke and Ben Betteridge. However, it was Ady Baker who took out their middle order with 5 for 31 off his 11 overs. Despite a late flurry of runs Newbold ended 45 runs short as they finished on 154 for 9 off their 41 overs.

The other wicket takers on the day were Liam O'Rourke (2 for 28), Ben Betteridge (1 for 22) and Nick Hines (1 for 45).

Next Saturday Barwell play host to Ketton Sports who are third in the table and 22 points behind Barwell with just 2 games, and a potential 50 points available. left in the season.
