Season starts well for 1st XI....finally!
17 May 2012
At the 3rd time of asking the 1st XI got off the mark with a 24 point win at the
'theatre of seams'
aka
'the kirkby road arena'.
The lads got the obligatery photos done courtesy of livewire marketing, a local business who's details will be on the website pretty soon, and we went out to field first as new captain Geoff Hines Junior won the toss and made a good decision.
Kirkby Road returner Lee Skene got straight back into the action bowling steady lines and lengths and deservedly broke the opening partnership courtesy of a poor cricket stroke! Betty and Skeney then took about the Stoughton batsmen with ease as they threw their wickets away, whilst Barwell were god in the field taking catches and not letting the fines committee earn any easy money!
Stoughton lead a small recovery but ended up 80 all out giving Barwell 18 overs before tea. This allowed some early wickets to be picked up, again to some poor and rusty strokes, but Neil Cowdrey looked solid before tea facing 32 balls without scoring.
After tea Barwell chase the target with relative ease and allowed for plenty of time in the bar and banter to be had by all!
A good start from which we need to progress!
