BARWELL SEAL PROMOTION

08 Sep 2014

Barwell sealed promotion to division one on Saturday with a win away at Billesdon.

After starting the season mid-table Barwell have lost just one game since May and secured the second promotion spot with a week to spare.

Barwell bowled first at Billesdon and soon had their hosts in trouble. Lee Skene took his wicket haul to 40 for the season with figures of 2-40 from 11 overs, at the other end Chris Moore was the pick of the Barwell bowlers with 3-23 from 12 overs. Kyle Newall also claimed three wickets as Billesdon were all out for 138.

Barwell started their chase very well with opening pair Trent Rollins and Adam Stapleford-Jones scoring 40 and 41 before both being caught. Following the dismissal of both openers there was a slight wobble from Barwell as the hosts took three quick wickets, however Adam Waters eased any nerves and his unbeaten 28 saw Barwell to victory.

Captain Trent Rollins was once again impressed with his team and feels promotion is a massive achievement. He said: “Today was a great performance from the boys and we did really well to bowl them out cheaply on a decent wicket. To be promoted is a great achievement especially from where we were early season and credit to the lads who have been excellent.”

Barwell second team held on to secure a losing draw against Woodhouse Eaves.

Barwell won the toss and chose to bowl first. Woodhouse batted well throughout and some loose fielding Barwell allowed the visitors to reach 239-6. Liam O’Rourke was the pick of the Barwell attack with figures of 2-35 from 12 overs.

In reply Barwell lost wickets at crucial times and reaching their target was always going to be a big ask. Liam O’Rourke top scored with 45 and John Morely scored 39 at the top of the order. With wickets falling at regular intervals it was left up to younger members of the team and captain Pete Tillin to ensure that Barwell got a draw and they batted out and ended on 160-9.
