Barwell ended their season on a high with a two wicket win against Lutterworth.
Barwell bowled first and did well to restrict the visitors to 192. Veteran seamer Kevin Hines was the pick of the Barwell attack with outstanding figures of 4-9. Lee Skene added two more wickets to his collection to make it 42 for the season and Declan Allen finished with 2-20.
The visitors kept things interesting for Barwell and looked as if they could win the game at one point as they were regularly taking wickets; a good innings from opener and leading run scorer Adam Stapleford-Jones and some vital contributions down the order saw Barwell home with two wickets to spare. Stapleford-Jones top scored with 59, Kyle Newall chipped in with 29 and tail-enders Lee Preston and Chris Moore were both unbeaten at the end.
Captain Trent Rollins was happy his side ended with a win, he said: “It’s always tough playing in dead rubber games but the boys did well and it was a pleasing way to end the season.” Rollins, 21, has scored well over 650 runs as Barwell’s overseas player and captain and he hasn’t ruled out a return for next season, he said: “I’d love to come back, Barwell’s been a great place to play cricket and we can certainly look at next year as a possibility. I’d just like to thank all the players and everyone at the club for welcoming me the way they have.”
Barwell’s final game is on Saturday at Kirkby Road and they will take on Coventry and North Warwickshire in the oldest continuous fixture in world cricket. This will be followed by their annual presentation night which starts at 8pm.
